Ho Chi Minh City has one of the most vibrant street art and fashion scenes in the world
The first Kings of Culture episode showcases the work of Danny Daos and Quang Minh
BUDX and Mixmag have come together for the Kings of Culture documentary project, a special five-part series to showcase artists and collectives from around the world, each of which delves into the scenes that are pushing forward creativity.
The first episode takes us on a tour of Ho Chi Minh City's vibrant street art and fashion scene. Graffiti artist Danny Daos and fashion designer Quang Minh introduce us to the Vietnamese touch that influences their artistry as they collaborate on a project together.
Danny is considered a pioneer in Ho Chi Minh City's graffiti movement and is also the leader of the All-In-One graffiti group, which gathers hundreds of young artists together. Daos' campaigns have covered topics like animal protection, including an acclaimed campaign in 2017 to end rhino consumption.
When taking us through the streets of the city, he focuses on the way in which his art connects with a diverse range of people, people that happen to pass by his murals in day-to-day life.
While Daos is painting the streets, Minh breaks societal boundaries with his Headless line. The designer doesn't make his clothes primarily for money, rather "to sell something spiritual. The spirit of not being afraid of anything. The spirit of doing whatever you like.”
The work of Daos and Minh is deeply interconnected with the undying energetic spirit of Ho Chi Minh City. The two are coming together to create a clothing line that celebrates Vietnamese street culture and this merging of minds is a truly special collaboration.
