The Glove That Fits will expand its wildly off-kilter programming in 2019

In March last year, the team behind FOLD opened up an intimate 150-capacity venue in Homerton called The Glove That Fits and in the short time it's been open, it has quietly created an environment for some of the most unique and diverse events in the city.

The venue, consisting of an upstairs bar area and an 80-capacity basement, made sure that its first year of operation established other-worldly, off-the-beaten-track programming, a style its come to pride itself on.

Alongside the sounds of Egyptian Lover, Slugabed, femme culture and Vegyn, there are also nights dedicated to the off-kilter, such as a Quantum Natives Showcase and a four-hour, improvised meditating drone session with Spiritual Friendship, a project by Gareth Jones and Nick Hook (respectively the pair have produced for Depeche Mode, Yung Thug, DJ Rashad and DJ Earl).

One reoccurring event that will continue its reign at The Glove this year is Steven Julien aka Funkineven's Apron Records party and he's locked in a residency at the club.

Talking about the space, he said: "Nothing beats a small intimate club with low ceilings and a good sound system - anything that reminds me of the legendary Plastic People nightclub is on the road to success."

"The Glove That Fits is where I want our home for Apron Records’ parties as it’s perfect for the type of vibe we need that fits our sound. The booth is nice and tight so no one can “hang behind the booth”, and it’s aimed for people to dance and nothing else - which is perfect especially in the times we live in today. We need to go back to the real club life and The Glove defiantly helps express the culture." says Julien.

Dyllan Zain, the project leader and programmer for the venue believes that it's more than just a space that plays music, it's a venue where challenging the audience to release their inhibitions is the key to a great experience.

"Once people are comfortable mentally, they naturally let there guard down. You get a free flow of expression from both the artist's and crowd - that's when an atmosphere really starts to be created." says Zain.

With artists like Lone heading down in January and Jon K and Tom Boogzin the following month, it's looking like The Glove That Fits will continue to expand and evolve both creatively and musically. We're ready for it.
