The Lab India 2024: Wrapping Up The Season
We look back at an incredible season of The Lab India, bringing you talented artists from across the country and the globe
In September, Mixmag and The Smirnoff Project presented by Smirnoff Lemon Pop Non Alcoholic launched a new season of our legendary DJ streaming series, The Lab, with a string of events across different Indian cities. We threw parties from Goa to Kolkata, Bengaluru to Pune, featuring the best Indian and international talent with a strong focus on inclusivity and diversity.
The Lab India’s 2024 season was one for the books, travelling across nine different cities around the country with over 30 shows featuring artists from all around the world and national trailblazers alike. Goa was our most visited destination this season, with six shows featuring international acts like London-based Jordan Arts, Toronto’s very own Ciel, Berlin’s finest DJ Fuckoff, Russian extraordinaire Sexstasy, Nigerian-American multi-intrumentalist Eli Fola, and an incredible show by Indian selector Anushka. This was followed by a show in the garden city of Bengaluru, where we showcased five Lab shows with London-based bass veteran Skeptical and inter-disciplinary artist Rrose, Prague-hailing Spada, hometown hero Kampai, and the elusive Todh Teri.
Next up, we hosted four shows in both Mumbai and Gurgaon, showcasing global talents including Germany-based Bec, the UK’s Cristoph, and Anjunadeep’s very own Nox Vahn, along with domestic tastemakers such Sickflip, Kollision, Suggahunny, Nida and Lynston. Kolkata, Pune and Hyderabad saw three shows in each city with some incredible live-hybrid performances from the likes of Hamza Rahimtulla, Rajasthan Folkstars, and Elsewhere in India. These were followed by DJ sets from Kolkata’s finest 8-Bit Culprit, Indian veterans Arjun Vagale and Unnayanna, disco champion Stalvart John, producer and composer Jay Pei, and international acts Nicky Elisabeth and Novak. The Lab India also debuted in the cities of Jaipur and Indore, showcasing the likes of Moscada and Nash.
The third season of Lab India was nothing short of spectacular, with some memorable performances both live and on-stream. A genre diverse season that featured everything from bass music, techno, house, disco, Afro, amapiano and everything in between. A big thank you to everyone who came out week after week across all cities, showing us what The Lab truly means to you – we’re full of gratitude.
The 2024 season of Lab India is incomplete without some input from our artists. Some of them gave their thoughts on the ‘We Do We’ campaign by The Smirnoff Project presented by The Smirnoff Lemon Pop Non Alcoholic – a project championing the power of collective unity and advocating for a more inclusive society where individual differences are celebrated rather than marginalised. Stay tuned on The Smirnoff Project’s Instagram to hear what the artists had to say.
