We went record digging with Inner City
We dug deep with Kevin and the gang
Last weekend's CRSSD Festival was a sight to behold and across two days, the San Diego hotspot hosted a wealth of incredible live acts and DJ sets.
Aside from dancing to the music on show, attendees could also grab the newest releases and rarest wax at the pop-up record store on-site, hosted by Stellar Remnant.
The carefully curated store featured the best house, techno, ambient and experimental music so that ravers could continue the party, well after the festival closed its doors.
While we were there, we brought legendary live outfit Inner City along to pick some records and show us what makes them tick. Kevin Saunderson, his son Danitez and Steffanie picked up some certified heaters.

Dantiez Saunderson, Twisted Pair 'Horny Hustle': So I chose this record because...I actually don’t know the record but..I know the artist! He’s a good friend of mine out of New York, Joeski & Dano. I’m friends with Joeski,
I’ve made tracks with him, I’ve remixed him, and I love all his stuff. So this is a record that I need to buy and check out ASAP...that’s why I chose this one.

Kevin Saunderson, Rhythim Is Rhythim 'Strings Of Life': This is Derrick May, another person I grew up with in Junior High & High School. He helped me in many ways and is quite a creative person, especially back then. He’s innovative and pushed the boundaries of dance music.
He made dance music what it is today. He’s a fearless person and I have lots of respect for him. Very minimal, very raw, very groovy, and you know his music has just always been amazing. It’s very basic & very raw, but it has all the right elements to make it work and make your ass dance.

Steffanie, Various 'KMS 25th Anniversary Classics: 2.5 Decades Of Techno': I chose KMS 25th Anniversary Classics because it was Kevin Saunderson’s first vocal recording.
Kevin is one of the founders of techno and anything he does, I have faith in and believe in and it’s always gold.
Dantiez Saunderson, MODEL 500 'No UFO's Remixes' (Moodymann / Luciano): I chose Model 500 because when I was growing up, Juan Atkins, one of the godfathers of techno who grew up with my dad, was always around.
I was listening to that, I was listening to old e-dancer. That was one of the first techno records I have ever heard. Mad history, Juan is family, and I love it!

Kevin Saunderson, Model 500 'Sonic Sunset': So this is Model 500, 'Sonic Sunset'. Juan Atkins is the originator. He influenced me so much in the beginning and I didn't know I was going to fall in the path of creating. Then as a creator, then becoming an elevator..creating in the city, so many aliases. Music became my path because he was an inspiration and showed me that you could make music with electronic equipment and you didn't need to do it with a band. It wasn’t traditional, it went against the rules and the grain of tradition.
Juan Atkins, I give a lot of respect to. We grew up in junior high and high school together so we were friends as well. Just the fact our paths met along with Derrick May and we met up like that. It was meant for this because at the beginning..it was only a handful of people listening to techno music. Now, you have many aliases and many different genres because of Detroit..because of Juan Atkins...so I gotta always give credit!
