Exhibition in Manchester to look at the emotional impact of music

Manchester will be hosting the opening of a new interactive exhibition which delves into the relationship between our emotions and music.

Kicking off at the Manchester Science Festival’s headline exhibition, Turn It Up: the power of music, will allow people to get involved with a variety of installations, inventions and the added bonus of music-making opportunities.

Based at Manchester’s Science and Industry Museum the exhibition will run from October 21 up until May 21 before it sets off on its national and international tour.

Whilst at Turn It Up attendees can learn about how music can trigger not only emotions but also memories.

Activities available include testing whether you can tell the difference between songs written by humans and machines, meeting a music-making robot as well as seeing the latest MiMU Gloves which allow artists to control music live on stage.

As well as this, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra have collaborated with Turn It Up and children’s mental health charity, Place2Be to play a new piece of music which is said to guide listeners through different emotions as well as improve a child’s emotional literacy.

Research contributions to the exhibition also include the Royal Northern College of Music, English National Opera (ENO), Manchester Camerata and many more.

The day after its launch on October 22, the museum will be running an evening of live music, art and performance as part of the new exhibition.
