​Alexander Lewis is pioneering a vibrant trap sound with jazz trombone

With an emphasis on seclusion, artistic solidarity and refined audio gear from AKG, Mixmag and Samsung teamed up to bring a handful of musicians to the remote forests of Woodstock, New York and the open desert of Joshua Tree, California for two wholly unique electronic music retreats. Immersed in these thought-provoking environments, we created an engaging original mini-documentary on each participating artist to give viewers a novel perspective on their profile and creative process.

Joining us on our Joshua Tree retreat was the jazz trombone trap artist, Alexander Lewis. Since picking up his grandmother's trombone at the age of 10, Lewis knew that music was his calling. While attending the Manhattan School of Music, his astute passion for jazz was transformed forever by NYC's diverse musical offerings. After freeing himself from the confines of jazz, Lewis' musical interest pivoted towards electronic music and hip hop. His signature blend of brass instrumentation on his self-released music and remixes has received praise from the likes of RL Grime, Tokimonsta, Alison Wonderland and he's gone on to share the stage with artists Mr. Carmack, Lido, Big Gigantic, Griz, Louis The Child and many others. During the retreat, Lewis explains how his ability to create "huge synths, a wall of sound, an orchestra of saw waves" when producing electronic music has altered his creative output forever.
