Beloved Jakarta nightclub Ding Dong Disko closes permanently

After nearly six years since it first opened its doors in Jakarta, Ding Dong Disko has closed permanently.

Located in the A3000 Creative Compound in South Jakarta, the venue has been a hub for both underground and mainstream music, making it a staple in the city’s nightlife circuit.

The nightclub, founded by Indonesian dance music collective 3000 Group, didn't specify a reason for its closure, but said it was "bidding farewell" on social media last month.

Described as a "retro-futuristic" venue that serves as "both a bar and club", Ding Dong Disko has operated in Jakarta since 2019. Several international names who have previously graced the space include Central, Sunju Hargun, Matisa, Manfredas, Ivan Smagghe, and Budino.

Before its closure, Ding Dong Disko hosted a month-long farewell celebration, featuring a line-up honouring its legacy while setting the stage for what’s next.

"Our days are numbered, and it’s five. Five days to give our beloved upstairs dancefloor the proper send-off it deserves," they announced on Instagram at the start of February. "Each day will feature a unique lineup, showcasing the diverse sounds that have echoed throughout our dancefloor and defined the energy we’ve shared."

A string of finale events kicked off on February 7 with Phunktion, Indonesia’s longest-running drum ’n’ bass night from Javabass Soundsystem, headlined by the UK’s Degs. Other events featured artists including MAAD, Droopy, Los Chicos, Kraus, Pak Kardiman, Shafa, Trisa, and Nasha.

Glasgow's Jasper James appeared at the club's final event on February 15 alongside Tripo 3000 residents Kana and Mayo. Others on the bill included Asa Kusumah, local crews SALA and Glasloop, and live acts Ellga and VT-00.

From 2019 to 2025, Ding Dong Disko has played a key role in Jakarta’s dance music scene, not only by hosting both local and international acts, but also by fostering a diverse community of music enthusiasts from a wide range of genres.

Meanwhile, the 3000 Group has been instrumental in shaping the city’s clubbing culture, launching A3000 Creative Compound as a hub for community-based events and creative collaborations, such as Asia KolektifA.
