Chilean DJ, label head and promoter Joye Mitarakis has died

Chilean DJ, label head, and promoter Joye Mitarakis has passed away, Berlin’s Club Der Visionaere has confirmed.

The Berlin club confirmed the news on Instagram over the weekend, writing: “Today the Club Der Visionaere community is mourning the passing of our friend Joye Mitarakis."

The beloved DJ was described by the club as one of their most “dedicated regulars, an unofficial resident, and a member of the extended CDV family”.

Born in Chile, Joye Mitarakis began DJing in the 2000s at clubs including La Feria and Club Del Sol Sunshine before moving to Berlin at the end of the decade, per Resident Advisor.

As a fervent record collector, Mitarakis launched his own label, Piros, in 2017, a home for genres including electro, breaks, and house, with a mission to platform artists from all over the world.

Artists such as Miami’s Mario Liberti, Venezuela’s Argenis Brito, and Uruguay’s Ema Remedi all released on Piros over the course of seven years, with a final release from Berlin-based producer Atree in 2024.

Mitarakis also hosted regular label parties at Club Der Visionaere where he curated “excellent line-ups” and hosted artists featured on his record label.

“A fantastic DJ, deep music lover, and genuine soul, he was always up for a last minute session,” CDV wrote. “We will miss his sweet smile on the dance floor and behind the decks, and send all our love and condolences to his family and friends in this difficult time.”

A memorial for Mitarakis went ahead at Berlin’s Hopetosse on Sunday, February 2, inviting friends, family, and those "touched by Joye" to remember his life and legacy.
