Creamfields issue "urgent" weather warning amid Storm Lillian

Creamfields Festival has issued an “urgent” weather warning to festivalgoers as Storm Lillian hits the UK.

The festival kicked off yesterday, August 22, in Daresbury, Cheshire, and is due to continue until Sunday, August 25. Due to extreme weather conditions, Creamfields was forced to delay public arenas and gates from opening.

In a warning issued at 7:AM this morning, Creamfields urged campers to “stay in their tents" amid high gusts of wind, advising on tent safety, securing loose items, and movement around the site.

For those who had already arrived on site, the festival asked attendees to “remain in your vehicles", and for those who had already set up camp to ensure tents are "securely pegged down with guy lines".

The festival suggests that all loose items around the camp site should be moved away as they could become “hazardous projectiles”.

Creamfields' team are currently on site conducting regular inspections of all stages, tents, and other temporary structures to "ensure they’re safe and secure".

The team asks attendees that if they must leave the tent, they should be “cautious of surroundings", especially in open areas or near large structures such as temporary fencing or signs.

Creamfields shared: “We expect the high winds to pass by mid-morning. Please follow our social channels and App notifications for updates. Thanks for your patience.”

“The forecast indicates high gusts of wind and we want to ensure that you’re prepared and aware of the safety measures in place. The high winds are currently only forecast to last for the morning.”

According to the Met Office, there are yellow warnings for winds to spread across parts of northern England, southern Scotland, and Wales until 11:AM today (August 23).

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly said: “Storm Lilian will bring some potentially damaging gusts during Friday morning, with gusts widely in the 50-60mph range, with the possibility of some gusts in excess of 75mph in a few places.”

Videos are circulating from Creamfields showing unstable tents amid extreme weather conditions, with some festivalgoers claiming that people should "not come to the festival".

Leeds Festival, which is currently going ahead this weekend, has also been hit by Storm Lilian, forcing two stages to shut due to strong winds. The arena at Bramham Park was due to open at 11:AM, however they're now advising festivalgoers to "stay in their tents", similar to Creamfields.
