Daytimers announce four-week residency at Jazz Cafe in April

Daytimers will take over London's Jazz Cafe across four Fridays in April.

The South Asian underground collective will begin their residency in the spring, treating crowds at the Camden venue to their signature blend of bhangra, jungle, baile funk and garage intertwined with Tamil, Punjabi and Bollywood influences.

According to a press release, each Friday will play host to a different theme, led by a selection of all-star DJs who’ll be in charge of curating the night’s line-up.

Daytimers have launched the residency to celebrate the release of ‘Alterations’, a "landmark" 10-track compilation set to land on Sony Music.

'Alterations' will work to redefine South Asian soundscapes through global club tunes utilising Sony Music India's extensive catalogue.

The residency intends to honour the legacy left by past collectives within the South Asian community, while also embracing the vibrant global dance music scene shaped by South Asian artistry today.

Daytimers, which was founded in 2020, highlights South Asian talent across music, visual arts, poetry and more. It was originally inspired by daytime parties in the '80s and '90s, where young British Asians carved their path within the UK underground scene.

In June, the collective held a festival at the Horniman Museum in South-East London. The line-up featured acclaimed British Bengali indo-jazz musician Tara Lily, sitar-led band Jawari, dubstep legend and System Music founder V.I.V.E.K and NTS presenter Sway of the Verses.

They’ve also supported emerging artists in Manchester through the music development organisation Brighter Sound, and co-created Arrivals, the first all-South Asian stage at Glastonbury alongside Dialled In and Going South.
