Detroit DJ and promoter Grant Jackson has died aged 35, his family have confirmed.

Grant’s mother, father, and brother revealed the news on Facebook last week (May 2), writing: “We all love and miss Grant deeply."

“We are planning a celebration of Grant’s life at our home in Northville,” the post continued. "We appreciate all comments, stories and pictures of your experiences with Grant."

Based out of Detroit, Michigan, Grant threw regular parties across the city, hosting his popular Taco Tuesdays nights between Corktown’s UFO Bar and TV Lounge in Downtown.

Grant was a self-taught musician, getting his start in the dance music scene in the late 2000s hosting dubstep events. He was known in the community as K@dog.

A memorial event is set to go ahead tomorrow, May 7, in memory of Grant. A fundraiser has also been launched to support his family with financial costs following Grant’s passing, and help his son, Jacob, to “achieve his academic goals”.

“All friends and family are welcome to come by to share stories and memories about Grant's full but short life,” his family wrote. “In lieu of flowers, donations to Grant's only son Jacob David Jackson will go directly to his education and future.”

Another memorial event, set up by Spkrbox – a Detroit nightclub frequented by Grant – will also go ahead over the weekend on Sunday, May 11, celebrating Grant's life with a community BBQ.

“[Grant’s] positive influence on the music community is obvious by the outpouring of condolences and stories of how he has inspired and impacted so many lives,” reads an obituary.
