NYC collective Discwoman has taken a step back to focus on talent agency

NYC collective Discwoman is “starting a new chapter” to focus on their agency DW Artists.

The group announced this step in an Instagram post made last Thursday (August 25), and asked their supporters to “amplify each other”.

Formed in 2014, the collective was created by co-founders Frankie Hutchinson, Emma Burgess-Olson (AKA Umfang) and Christine Tran. Their mission is to shine a light on some of the best non-male talent in New York and fight gender disparity in dance music.

The collective championed artists, hosted events, created a mix series and pushed the electronic music community within the city.

Writing on Instagram, the collective says: “We have experienced more through this project than we could have imagined when we formed in 2014.

“We are beginning a new chapter and evolving away from the platform of Discwoman to focus solely on the agency & our roster talent at DW Artists. Thank you for all the love & support over the years.”

DW Artists is the roster of talent represented and championed by the heads of Discwoman. The roster currently represents 13 names in the scene, including Shyboi, Ariel Zetina and Ciel.

The work of Discwoman outside of representing artists has been largely centred around community action and charity, with the collective donating thousands of dollars to the likes of ACLU and the Sadie Nash Leadership Project over the years.

In 2020, the collective raised more than $19,000 for mutual aid organisation Equality For Flatbush through proceeds from the third instalment in their ‘Physically Sick’ compilation series.
