Fred again.., Four Tet and Skrillex help raise $20,000 for NYC's City Soul Bus

A GoFundMe, which was launched to fund New York's City Soul Bus after it was recently robbed, has reached its $20,000 goal thanks to generous donations from Fred again.., Four Tet and Skrillex.

According to the GoFundMe page, organisers discovered last Thursday (March 14) that City Soul Bus' iconic DIY stage had been robbed.

The perpetrators reportedly stole DJ and sound equipment from the bus, leaving the City Soul crew without the essential tools needed to host sets on board — just two days before its "biggest Riddim Bus event yet."

Within 48 hours of launch, the fundraiser achieved its $20,000 goal after receiving generous donations from Fred again.., Four Tet and Skrillex.

According to Resident Advisor, the trio donated $4,200 each, raising a combined total of $12,600 between them.

City Soul Bus founder, Alan Gibson thanked the Coachella headliners, telling Resident Advisor, "They really saved our bacon".

Gibson added: "We're just gonna go right back to partying...we'll keep going and doing what we do to help to bring all of the communities together, bring joy to people and bring the relief that we think everybody needs."

The DJs famously performed with City Soul Bus on February 17 last year, as part of a surprise set in New York's Times Square.

Taking over the heart of the city, the grassroots project partnered with the beloved The Lot Radio for the impromptu performance.

In a video shared to Instagram, organisers wrote: "We made history in NYC yesterday... We are truly speechless by the insane turnout."

Launched in 2020, City Soul Bus' mission is "to bring as many free street parties to the people of New York City as possible" — and hosting weekly street parties all through the summer months.

Boasting a variety of local and global acts, the converted school bus has played host to the likes of BLOND:ISH, Riva Starr and Ghastly, as well as partnering New York names such as NYC nightlife, like Elsewhere, Soul in the Horn, Brooklyn Monarch, SILO, Jupiter Disco, and House of Yes.

Organisers told Resident Advisor that additional donations will go towards "bus repairs, parking fees as well as artist fees so that they can expand and diversify their programming".
