Hard Times records returns, shares house track 'All I Need'

Yorkshire club night and record label Hard Times has returned to share new material, set for release on March 31 both digitally and on vinyl.

Single 'All I Need' sticks to the imprint's iconic house music sound, seeing Chicago's Steve 'Silk' Hurley teaming up with Sara Garvey - keen collaborator with Nightmares On Wax - on vocal duty.

The record is groove-infused with a Latin twist, tapping entirely into its Hard Times source and epitomising its sound even years later.

"When Steve Raine at Hard Times approached me about a remix of Sara’s 'All I Need', I told him how much I loved Sara’s concept and backstory of the song," Steve 'Silk' Hurley tells Mixmag. "I envisioned a whole new interpretation musically which would bring Sara’s story to life in a brand new way. I enjoyed going back to my remix roots by stripping down and reconstructing this tune with a new orchestration and vocal arrangements, the S&S Chicago way!"

"At the very start Hard Times was always about a few mates who all shared the same interest in dance music and a desire to create something special," adds founder Steve Raine. "30 years on and nothing has changed and our ethos remains the same.

"Our Track 'All I Need' is way more than just the music and once again brings together a group of friends to create something very special."

The record also has a selection of accompanying remixes from names including Alex Arnout, Eddie Leader, Terry Farley & Kevin Swain and DJ Skip, all offering different perspectives on the original classic house cut.

To celebrate 30 years of the party, today sees a party take place in Miami headed by Hurley and DJ Seinfeld, with other names involved including DJ Heather and Heidi Lawden.

Born in the quiet Yorkshire town of Mirfield, Hard Times and its parties spread across the UK throwing events with names including Masters at Work and Deep Dish, becoming a dominant force in house music throughout the 90s. It wound down in the 00s as founder Raine took a break from the industry to go into farming.

'All I Need' is available on March 31, pre-order your copy here.
