Female musicians from across Iran have come together on ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’, a 12-track electronic compilation in support of the ongoing plights against women in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Featuring 12 different producers, ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’, translated from 'Zan, Zendegi, Azadi’, is a charity release with all proceeds going toward organisations that help women and children recovering from domestic violence, addiction, homelessness, and societal distress in Iran.

Amidst ongoing protests for freedom against the Iranian regime, the compilation will also be released in tribute to Mahsa Amini, an Iranian woman who recently died under suspicious circumstances while detained by police.

Amini died in hospital in Tehran on September 16, 2022, after falling into a coma. She was arrested by the Guidance Patrol for wearing her hijab "improperly", with eyewitnesses claiming that she was severely beaten by enforcers as a result.

Her death sparked protests across Iran, reportedly some of the largest since 2009, which saw thousands of women take to the streets to demonstrate against the Iranian regime and has since resulted in the deaths of more than 476 protestors and 18,480 arrests.

‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ is due for release on Friday, January 20, put together by Iranian DJs AIDA and Nesa Azadikhah, compiling tracks from women inspired by the current revolution. The release spans genres including breaks, electro, techno, experimental, and ambient.

Speaking in a statement, AIDA and Nesa Azadikhah said: “As a group of Iranian women, this fight is closest to our hearts. We release this collection in solidarity and towards a fight for a free Iran and aim to raise awareness about this revolution through music.

“The theme of this collection is power, defiance, and ferocity and can be heard across all of the tracks. This is the energy with which Iranian women continue to push for freedom.”
