John Glacier releases Sampha collaboration ‘Ocean Steppin'’

John Glacier has announced a new single and video ‘Ocean Steppin'’, a collaboration with Sampha.

Featuring stirring production from Kwes Darko, the sublime track pairs John Glacier’s unmistakable relaxed-yet-commanding flow with Sampha’s emotive vocals.

John Glacier spoke about the track in her recent Mixmag cover feature, saying: ““[Sampha] just took so much care with how he treated his verse. I was taken aback because I realised how much he cared to listen to what I had to say. To this day, I’m still kind of emotional thinking about it. At the end of his verse, he says, ‘Ocean stepping on a daydream,’ How beautiful is that?”

The track is set to feature on John Glacier’s anticipated debut album ‘Like A Ribbon’, which drops via Young on February 14.

John Glacier is set to celebrate the release with a headline performance at London’s Village Undergrounf on February, with tickets on sale now.

The album comprises thre consecutively released EPs, with the first landing in February 2024.

“I wanted to create an album that changed with the seasons. It’s weird, I don’t know why I just felt that ‘SHILOH’ wasn’t an album, it was a project, but ‘Like a Ribbon’ is an intentional album – I knew it would take three-parts and be made across this long period of time. The running thread throughout is just life throughout the year,” explained John.

‘Ocean Steppin'’ arrives alongside a video directed by Gabriel Moses, featuring an intimate framing of John Glacier crouched down rapping along to the track.

Speaking about the video, Gabriel Moses said: “John is just herself. That’s what’s always drawn me to her - she’s an individual and brings that essence to the work. When you operate like that, to me that’s what makes an artist captivating.”
