KORG launches new translucent “crystal” synthesiser for 20th anniversary

To celebrate 20 years since the release of microKORG’s Crystal synthesiser, KORG has announced the launch of a brand new translucent special edition synth.

The Special Edition microKORG Crystal Synthesizer/Vocoder takes elements from the original 2003-release Crystal synthesiser from KORG with a “fresh new look”.

The microKORG’s see-through body peers into the mechanics of the machine, a popular design choice in the early ‘00s with gaming devices such as the GameBoy, PlayStation, and Nintendo 64.

All features on the new microKORG remain the same as its retro predecessor except for its casing, including a built-in vocoder, dual analogue oscillators, and translucent knobs, dials, and wheels.

The synth also includes a wide variety of waveforms, as well as a built-in filter and amp section allowing users to manipulate sounds for added texture.

On top of its new look, the microKORG special edition synth comes with a see-through travel bag to take it on the move.

First released in 2003, KORG’s Crystal synthesiser became one of the most highly acclaimed and best-selling synths of all time and still remains a perennial top seller to this day.

The portable compact synth allowed users to take it anywhere while on the go with a battery-operated power supply and lightweight body.

The new synthesiser will go on display this weekend at Berlin’s annual Superbooth event showcasing the best in new music technology. It’ll then go on sale for the first time in July, priced at €539 (£465).
