​Lion Babe is the NYC duo fusing the essence of soul, hip hop and funk

With an emphasis on seclusion, artistic solidarity and refined audio gear from AKG, Mixmag and Samsung teamed up to bring a handful of musicians to the remote forests of Woodstock, New York and the open desert of Joshua Tree, California for two wholly unique electronic music retreats. Immersed in these thought-provoking environments, we created an engaging original mini-documentary on each participating artist to give viewers a novel perspective on their profile and creative process.

Joining us on our Joshua Tree retreat was Jill Hervey and Lucas Goodman of the New York City R&B duo, Lion Babe. Citing influences such as Lee Scratch Perry, Sergio Mendes and Fela Kuti, Lion Babe thrives on an electronic fusion of deep soul, diverse hip hop and robust funk. First linking up in 2012, they released their breakout single 'Treat Me Like Fire' - a track that earned them widespread acclaim and landed them a record deal with Interscope Records. "We were really just making something for the pure joy of doing it," explains Jill when speaking about their hit single. Since that time, Lion Babe has honed their sound and gone to release numerous popular EPs and singles, along with their debut album, 'Begin'. During the retreat, Hervey and Goodman look back on how they first linked up and how their collaboration helped them blossom into confident and creative individuals.
