Spritland in London's Royal Festival Hall is set to close this week

Spiritland Royal Festival Hall on Southbank, London has announced its closure.

In a statement the venue revealed the news, explaining that part of the reason for it shutting its doors is down to "COVID-19, Brexit, energy price rises and many other factors,” which made the decision “inevitable."

Opening at the Royal Festival Hall in 2018 the venue expanded to a café in Kings Cross, and a headphone bar in Mayfair — both of which will remain open.

Known for its weekly Spiritland By Night parties, the venue saw a host of DJs perform including Honey Dijon, Josey Rebelle, François K, Sasha, Laurent Garnier and Fabio & Grooverider.

Its final show will run this Friday (January 13) with “a blaze of glory” called The Last Dance with the very first DJs to play at Spiritland Royal Festival Hall, Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker and Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor.

As part of their closure, The Black Keys played a free party at the venue on the weekend also in celebration of The Arcs' upcoming album.

The statement reads: “We set out to build a pleasure palace for lovers of music and culture - a space for drinking and dining, dancing and conversation within Europe’s biggest arts centre. We would have loved to continue our mission there but the current conditions simply don’t allow it. Covid, Brexit, energy price rises and numerous other factors have made this difficult decision inevitable.”

Concluding the statement it says: “We’ll miss our beautiful home on the Southbank. We wanted to build a unique and credible addition to London's cultural landscape - our journey will continue elsewhere and we'll keep you posted about what's next for us.”
