A memorial event celebrating the life and legacy of DJ Funk will take place in Chicago this weekend.

Set to take over Park West on Saturday (April 6) from 5:PM, DJ Funk: Celebrating The Life of Charles Chambers will see several of DJ Funk's closest friends and collaborators get together to pay tribute to the late ghetto house pioneer — with all proceeds going directly to Funk's family.

DJ Funk, AKA Charles Chambers, passed away last month (March 5) following a "brave" battle with cancer — he was just 54 years old. In the lead-up to his death, his family had launched a GoFundMe to help cover funeral costs.

“DJ Funk, a talented artist who has brought so much joy and inspiration to so many through his music, is now facing the heartbreaking reality of planning for his final farewell,” his family wrote on the fundraiser page.

Saturday's event will feature sets from several pioneering Chicago musicians, including Traxman, DJ Slugo, DJ Godfather, Gant-Man, DJ Spinn, Jammin Gerald and many more, alongside a 30-minute memorial video set featuring never-before-seen footage of DJ Funk and sets from unannounced "special guests."

"Join us as we come together to honor the life and legacy of DJ Funk the creator of Ghetto House music, a true pioneer, and an unstoppable force in the culture," the event description reads. "His music shaped generations, his energy was unmatched, and his impact on the world will live on forever."

"This is more than just a night of music it’s a celebration of life, creativity, and the movement he built. We’ve curated an incredible lineup of artists and DJs to pay tribute to his legacy and make your heart feel every beat," it continues. "Let’s send him off the way he would’ve wanted with love, music, and a whole lot of funk."
