Odeko is the latest in a line of melody-focused producers with an ear for the weird and wonderful to crop up on Gobstopper.

Four-tracker ‘A History With Samus’ dances around Eastern themes and blissed-out textures in idiosyncratic style. The gorgeous ‘The Yumato Spring’ and beautifully giddy, rain-soaked ‘Setsuko’, both of which sound like they were made on a planet far, far away, are immediate standouts.

There are darker elements too, such as the crunchy, padded-out bass patterns on ‘Sugar Acid’, but this is a record defined by its ability to deliver sounds we didn’t know existed.
