The inaugural event kicks off this month, taking place across four Portuguese cities
The full music programme for the debut edition of SQUARE – a brand new festival taking place this month in Portugal – has been revealed.
The inaugural edition of SQUARE kicks off later this month on January 29, and is set to run across four Portuguese cities, Braga, Barcelos, Famalicão, and Guimarães, before concluding on February 1.
Last April, SQUARE launched an open call for artists and bands of any genre to perform at the festival, offering successful applicants a fee of €750 to play.

The line-up for SQUARE has now been revealed, including both a music and conference programme featuring independent professionals in the music industry.
This year’s event features the likes of Canadian-Lebanese DJ and sound artist Liliane Chlela, Mexican artist and WVWV co-founder DJ Fucci, Moroccan producer and live artist Guedra Guedra, and plenty more.
Elsewhere on the line-up, ANTCONSTANTINO, Julián Mayorga, Rocío Guzmán, Normal Nada, Zancudo Berraco, EMMVR, Housepainters, and more are also set to perform.

The line-up now features over 50 names, each selected around the theme ‘margin’, exploring “geomusicality, the borders of the Atlantic, accessibility, and the financial and creative survival of independent artists”.
The music programme aims to highlight “voices and sounds often overlooked on more mainstream stages”, with a focus on grassroots music from the three continents surrounding the Atlantic: Africa, the Americas, and Europe.
SQUARE is part of Braga25, a programme celebrating the city of Braga as the Portuguese Capital of Culture, showcasing “national creativity” in a wider European context.
