Scotland’s first-ever vinyl pressing plant is under construction, Seabass Vinyl
It’ll open its doors this October in East Lothian
Scotland’s first major vinyl pressing plant is due to open this year from a family-run business in East Lothian, just outside of Edinburgh.
Seabass Vinyl will begin taking orders from September 2023 ahead of its official opening in October, and initial plant commissioning from early November onwards.
The pressing plant is said to be an independent, family-owned business from David and Dominique Harvey, with a mission to become one of the greenest pressing plants in the world, per Resident Advisor.

Plans for the new plant were revealed last summer, confirmed by August 2022 after the pair signed the lease and submitted planning permission. They explained that they would continue to post regular progress updates on Instagram, sharing images of site blueprints and construction works.
The sustainable plant went under construction in April, and is projected to open by October this year. "We're artist-centric with an emphasis on quality and sustainability," founders David and Dominique told Resident Advisor.
The plant has a target run of 50,000 - 60,000 records per month when up and running, offering fair prices, quick turnarounds, and “optimised production lead times”.

“Our ambition is to become a valuable partner to artists and the music industry in general, as well as our local community,” they told RA.
Seabass Vinyl also announced last month that they’ll be teaming up with The Scottish Album of the Year Award for 2023, now accepting applicants for this year’s Sound of Young Scotland Award.
“[It’s] an award to support new and emerging artists, you could be in with the chance of winning a funding package worth over £10,000 including a run of up to 500 vinyl pressings of your debut album by Seabass Vinyl,” they announced on Instagram in July.
