The xx tease new music, confirm they are back "in the studio"

New music from The xx could be on the way, with the trio having confirmed they have been "in the studio" together.

Jamie xx, Romy and Oliver Sim have seemingly reunited if a post shared to The xx's Instagram account is anything to go by.

Posted on Saturday (March 8) with the caption "Last week, in the studio", the three musicians can be seen surrounded by studio equipment and electronic guitars.

This isn't the first time The xx have hinted at reuniting, with Romy telling NME last year that the trio had "started making some music."

“I still think you’ll be able to tell it’s us but I think we’re excited to move it on and keep it feeling fresh,” she said.

New music released under The xx would be the first from the band since 2017's 'I See You', though the trio have collaborated on music since then — most recently on Jamie xx's single 'Waited All Night'.

Released ahead of Jamie xx's long-awaited second album 'In Waves' last year, Jamie had said on the collaborative single: “Thank you to my two best friends and musical siblings, Oliver and Romy. It's wonderful to have the gang back together, working in new ways, working out new lives, I wouldn't be here without them.”

While Romy and Oliver Sim said in a joint statement: “We’ve loved collaborating on our recent solo projects but it’s been a while since the three of us came together on one track.

"We’re so pleased that this was the place we met up again. Proud to play a small part in this long-awaited, brilliant album.” they continue.
