Mall Grab on the power of DIY clothing and Kramer from Seinfeld being his style icon
Mall Grab talks us through his fashion choices
This jacket’s by Bernhard Willhelm. He’s a German designer who makes really colourful, unconventional pieces. They’re all made in Japan, are super-detailed and on quite small runs so are hard to find. I got it in a shop in New York. I walked in and was like, ‘Holy shit, that’s one of the best jackets I’ve ever seen.’
I love eBay, especially for band T-shirts. I collect them and got a sick T-shirt of Japanese band Boredoms there recently.
I like to buy and sell stuff. For a while that was how I made ends meet. Buying second-hand stuff is sick, especially when it’s been taken care of well. There’s too much waste because of people being obsessed with brands. Kids paying $200 for a T-shirt is crazy!

P.A.M (Perks And Mini) is sick, it’s a streetwear label that’s been around forever in Australia, run by a husband and wife team of Misha Hollenbach and Shauna Toohey. You can get it in Goodhood in the UK; it’s cool because it hasn’t been picked up by the Palace and Off-White crowd yet.
My T-shirt is one of my own designs. My friend Jackson designs for Steel City Dance Discs and he’s a huge inspiration. It’s nice to wear something you made yourself. I’ve got a spare room so I bought a sewing machine and really committed to it. And it’s cool that I get to experiment with dyes. I’m always dyeing shit!

I think I’ve got 11 tattoos. My parents would never let me get a tattoo so when I first moved to London I finally got one. I follow heaps of tattoo artists online and went to Sang Bleu in Dalston and had a leopard done by Jack Watts. It’s still one of my favourites! I went and got my second tattoo two or three days later.
I definitely regret the kind of clothes I wore when I was first getting into DJing: Scoop-neck tees and tight jeans. It was so uncomfortable!

I’m really into a designer called Kiko Kostadinov at the moment. He only graduated from Central Saint Martins a couple of years ago, but they already stock his stuff in Dover Street Market. It has a utilitarian, tailored workwear vibe.
My trousers are by another Japanese brand, Needles. I want to be comfortable so I wear a lot of really big and oversized stuff. I’ve got these in a few colours. I love the detailing on Needles clothes and especially the butterfly pockets on these.

I’m wearing Dr Martens shoes today that I’ve had forever. They can withstand anything and it’s nice when you’ve got to the point where they’re really worn in. I usually rock Asics trainers: easy to come by and comfortable.
I reckon Kramer from Seinfeld is my style icon, with all those cropped shirts and high-waisted pants. Or Brian Jones from The Rolling Stones. What he wore reminds me of Needles a little bit. Kind of psychedelic.
