Inside Mixmag and Beefeater Gin’s ‘Underground Of Sound’ installation at All Points East

Across two weekends in August, we took you on a journey through London’s sonic underground. In partnership with Beefeater Gin, Mixmag helped put together a one-of-a-kind experience at Victoria Park’s All Points East earlier this month — with a full-scale train carriage, renovated into an unsuspecting time capsule showcasing the true Spirit of London. We took you on a trip through some of dance music’s most iconic spots in the capital — so grab a Beefeater cocktail, stand clear of the closing doors, and get lost in the Spirit of London.

First stop: Vauxhall. Though this central London spot is also home to some of the city’s most frenetic and long-running queer parties, as well as institutions Vauxhall Tavern and The Eagle, this nook by the Thames also saw the creation of London’s most prized gin, Beefeater Gin, distilled in the big smoke since 1820.

Just a little further down the line, you’ll find Farringdon. Alight here for fabric, London’s first body sonic nightclub since 1999 with a penchant for techno and raucous weekend-long parties.

Now approaching: Elephant & Castle, home to Ministry Of Sound and The Elephant Castle pub. This iconic club first opened in 1991 and brought the sound of NYC's Paradise Garage to the UK. Just down the road, The Elephant and Castle pub was the location of Happy Days, a party for those leaving Ministry on a Sunday morning and wanting things kicking up a tempo (or two). Thus, UK garage was born.

Next station for Notting Hill Carnival, the second biggest carnival in the world to Brazil’s Rio. Here, you’ll find an annual party which has been running for some seven decades featuring over forty soundsystems, two million revellers, and the best in dancehall, reggae, bashment, and house.

The final stop is Mile End. Here, you’ll find All Points East Festival, a yearly attraction across six dates, this year it featured headliners including Gorillaz, Disclosure, The Chemical Brothers, and Tame Impala.
